How to play
Filipino Mahjong in five minutes. It's easier than your tita makes it look.
The goal
Build a winning hand of 17 tiles: five sets plus one pair, then call "Todas!" A set is a run of three in the same suit (chow), three of a kind (pong), or four of a kind (kong).
Your turn
Draw a tile, then discard one you don't need. That's it. If you draw a flower, it goes to your bonus area and you draw again — flowers are free points.
Calling discards
| Call | What you need | Who can call |
|---|---|---|
| Chow | Two tiles that make a run with the discard | Only the next player |
| Pong | Two matching tiles in hand | Anyone |
| Kong | Three matching tiles in hand | Anyone (draws a bonus tile) |
| Todas | The discard completes your hand | Anyone — game over |
If two calls clash: todas beats everything, kong/pong beat chow.
Scoring
Winning is 10 points, plus bonuses: +2 for winning on your own draw (bunot), +1 per flower, +2 per kong, +3 if you never called a discard (fully concealed hand).
Good to know
Winds and dragons can't form runs — only pairs, pongs, and kongs. If the wall runs out before anyone wins, the round is a draw. No shame in it; shuffle and run it back.
